Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity. Our bodies need both structured and unstructured physical activity. There are many benefits for unstructured physical activity for kids like using your imagination, being creative, improved problem-solving skills, and building social skills. Structured physical activity can lead to an improvement in physical fitness levels. Meaning your heart and muscles become more efficient and it makes daily tasks like easier. The F.I.T.T. Principle is a tool that can be used as a guideline to help you strengthen your body. Let’s learn about what is means and how you can use it!

What does the F.I.T.T. Principle stand for?

  • Frequency is the rate at which something is repeated within a period of time.
    • How often you exercise. For example 3x per week, daily, every other day.
  • Intensity is how much effort or physical work is required to perform an exercise or activity.
    • How hard you exercise. For example, light, moderate, vigorous.
  • Time is a measurement for the length of exercise.
    • For example, 15 minutes, 1 hour.
  • Type refers to the specific kind of exercise or activity you choose to perform.
    • Running, swimming, basketball, weight lifting
